The Akure-born forward made the revelation during a chat with fellow Super Eagles teammates Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi on The Culture League Podcast, where he expressed his longing for home, family, and friends despite the opportunities his European football career offers.
“Europe is boring”: Boniface’s honest take
Boniface, who has been plying his trade in Europe since 2018, did not mince words when comparing life abroad to Nigeria.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward explained that the lively atmosphere, energy, and culture of Lagos are unmatched.
“If Nigeria is like six hours drive to Germany, I would be driving every day from Lagos to Germany for training. Europe is boring,” Boniface joked, sparking laughter from his teammates.
When asked what he missed most about home, the 23-year-old replied:
“I miss everything, not just the food. I’ll be close to family, friends.”
For Boniface, Lagos represents more than just a location; it is the heartbeat of his personal life, offering the warmth and familiarity he feels is absent in Europe.
From Akure to the Bundesliga
Born in 2000, Boniface began his football journey at Nigerian academy Real Sapphire, where his talent quickly stood out.
