Two Footballers Die in Tragic Tunnel Crash, One Month After Diogo Jota’s Death

  • Two 19-year-old footballers have died in a tunnel crash in Italy, while their teammate was seriously injured
  • The Renault Twingo they were in collided head-on with a Volkswagen Tiguan, causing a partial tunnel wall collapse

The football has been thrown into mourning again after two football stars lost their lives in a tragic car accident.

Danilo Boz and Fabio Rosa, from ASD Calcio Maniago Vajont in Italy’s sixth-tier Promozione league, died in a tragic tunnel crash while returning home from training.

Reports have it that the Renault Twingo they were travelling in swerved into the opposite lane in the Bus del Colvera tunnel and had a head-on collision with a Volkswagen Tiguan.

They were being driven by their teammate Andrea Zoccoletto when the incident occurred, per Leggo It.

The impact caused the Twingo’s passenger side to crash into the tunnel wall, and it even collapsed it partially.

Boz and Rosa died on the spot, while Zoccoletto was hospitalised in serious condition, although her situation remains unknown.

ASD Calcio Maniago Vajont have suspended all sporting activities, while the close-knit community of Maniago continue to mourn the loss.

The club said via Express Football:

"We are shocked by the tragic passing of Danilo and Fabio. We are close to their families and loved ones at this time for this unimaginable loss, and we will continue to provide them with our full support.
"All Calcio Maniago Vajont activities are currently suspended until further notice."

This tragedy follows the recent loss of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died in a car crash after a tyre blowout caused their Lamborghini to veer off the road and catch fire while travelling from Spain to the UK.

The 28-year-old Portuguese striker was travelling with his younger brother, Andre Silva, when their vehicle veered off the A-52 highway in the province of Zamora, resulting in a fatal accident.

The devastating incident occurred less than two weeks after Jota celebrated his wedding to his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, in a heartfelt ceremony in Porto.

Spanish outlet Marca reports that witnesses immediately alerted 112, as the car was engulfed in flames, which also spread to nearby vegetation.

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 for €44.7 million. Since donning the Reds’ jersey, he featured in 182 matches, netting 65 goals and registering 26 assists.

Aaron Moffet dies

Legit.ng earlier reported that tributes have continued to pour in for Northern Irish footballer Aaron Moffett, who passed away following a severe road traffic accident last month.

The 38-year-old from Knocknamuckley, County Armagh, succumbed to critical injuries sustained in the crash after a period in hospital.

DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley described Moffett as a cherished figure, widely admired for his contributions on and off the football field. His loss has deeply affected the local community, with many remembering his passion and dedication to the sport.
