Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli has reportedly emerged as a top transfer target for Real Madrid and Manchester City this summer.
The 23-year-old star has been impressive for The Black and Greens who are currently in the eighth position on the Serie A table.
Sources claim that the Citizens are favourites to land the player at the end of this season but an Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato reports that Los Blancos have now joined the chase for his signature.
The current Premier League table-toppers made attempts to sign the player during the winter transfer window but the move failed to succeed.
After the window, Sassuolo's managing director Giovanni Carvenali was quoted by SunSport saying:
"Being on everyone's lips is a good thing, it means that we are doing a positive job. These are all talks that we will have in the summer market."
The publication further revealed that Pep Guardiola wants the 23-year-old Italian to replace aging Fernandinho at the end of the season with the Brazilian edging closer to the end of his career.
Speaking previously about Locatelli's future, his agent Stefano Castelnuovo confirmed the interest from Man City:
"In the January transfer market, Sassuolo will hardly sell the player. Manchester City are one of the teams monitoring him for the next market."
City are high flying this season as they already opened 12 points gap over second-place Manchester United after 26 games.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester City battled hard to defeat impressive West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, February 27.
The Citizens continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League after they narrowly beat West Ham United by 2-1 at the Etihad.
Two of City's center-back Ruben Dias and John Stones scored in each half of the game as Mikhail Antonio got the Hammers' only goal.
