- The PDP in Lagos has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was recently reinstated by President Bola Tinubu, not to leave the party
- Hakeem Olalemi, the PDP vice chairman (Lagos Central), urged the governor to make the party great in the state and the South-South region
- The PDP chieftain's comment came the day after President Tinubu announced the lifting of the state of emergency declared in Rivers earlier
The Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the recently reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers not to leave the leading opposition party and urged him to do his best in making the state great again.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, September 17, lifted the state of emergency he declared in Rivers state on March 18, 2025. The President said at the time that his decision was due to the breakdown of law and order in the state.

Why Tinubu declared a state of emergency
Before the suspension of democratic rule in the state, a power struggle had emerged between the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over control of the state's political structure.
Tinubu noted that the rift between the two political gladiators in the state had begun, leading to the vandalisation of national assets and, by extension, economic sabotage in the state, which is the background reason for the emergency.
Reacting to the latest development, the PDP vice chairman (Lagos Central), Hakeem Olalemi, while addressing journalists, called on the reinstated governor to be 'very courageous in running the affairs of the state'.
The Punch reported that the PDP chieftain explained that the deed has been done and that Governor Fubara should 'continue strong and be faithful' in discharging his duty in the state.
Fubara urged to strengthen PDP in Rivers
Olalemi called on Governor Fubara to nurture the party that brought him to power and make it a bigger platform, adding that the reinstated governor should not jettison the party.
He asked him to help in making the PDP strong in Rivers and in the South-South region and called on the political gladiators in the oil-rich state to put the people first and give room for harmony and peace to reign.
According to the PDP chieftain, there is no need to celebrate Fubara's return, knowing that the power that was freely given to him by the electorate has now been weakened.
He advised that the legislature and the executive should be united to better the lives of the people in Rivers, adding that the interest of the people who voted for them should override all politics and politicking.
