Rivers Crisis: 3 Things Fubara Must Do When He Returns to Office,” Top Lawyer Explains

Port Harcourt, Rivers state - Anyakweh Miracle Amadi, Esq, said the suspended Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, should get back to work immediate he returns to office.

Legit.ng report that Fubara is expected to return to office in September 18 after the expiration of the six-months state of emergency declaration in the oil rich state.

Amadi said the state of emergency was declared for some needed change including a fresh LG election in compliance with the Supreme Court's judgement.

The public affair analyst stated this during an exclusive chat with Legit.ng on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

The lawyer said the National Assembly constituted a committee that oversaw the activities of the Sole Administrator as required by the Constitution of Nigeria.

“In order to restore normalcy, within the short 6 months period of the administrator, there has to be some needed change, which part of it was to carry out a fresh LGA Council election in compliance with the Supreme Court's judgement.
“The election was held under the supervision of the National Assembly Committee constituted to oversee the activities of the Sole Administrator and can not be said to be unconstitutional. It flows also from the earlier date as already announced by the then RSIEC Chairman.”

Amadi said Fubara should focus on consolidating on projects and delivering his campaign promises to Rivers state people.

He warned Fubara against politicking but rather concentrate on good governance for the development of the south south state.

“The focus of Governor Fubara as soon as he returns to office on the 18 September is to consolidate on his projects, deliver his campaign promises to the people of Rivers State.
“He should resist every temptation of politicking but rather deliver all the pending projects and activities he began and leave a clean slate for himself.”

Rivers APC discusses what It'll do to Fubara

Recall that the Rivers state chapter of the APC, led by chairman Chief Tony Okocha, pledged to work with the suspended Governor Fubara upon his return.

The APC's recent victory in 20 of 23 local government areas in Rivers state is seen by the party as a precursor to the 2027 general election.

The party plans to actively recruit new members, including Wike and members of the State House of Assembly, in an effort to triple its support base by 2027.

Rivers crisis: Fubara, loyalists shun LG election

In a previous story, Legit.ng reported that the local government election held across the 23 council areas in Rivers state generated a fresh twist in the political crisis in the state.

The suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his supporters did not participate in the election.

The action of Fubara and his loyalists is coming after the suspended governor mended fences with his political godfather, Wike.
