Abdulmumin Jibrin, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency in Kano state, has formally responded to his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), describing the move as both “a surprise and a rude shock.”
In an official statement released following the announcement of his removal from the party, Jibrin expressed deep disappointment over the decision, which he said came without warning or an opportunity to defend himself.

“No invitation was extended to me to defend or explain myself by any organ of the party,” he stated, adding that the NNPP had neglected “the very important principle of fair hearing, due process and justice that the NNPP cry out loud and demand from others.”
Jibrin argued that even under military rule, an accused person is granted a court martial, suggesting that the party’s actions lacked procedural fairness. He maintained that the interview he granted in both English and Hausa—believed to be the trigger for his expulsion—was consistent with the party’s ethos of allowing dissenting views.
“I strongly believe the contents of the interview I granted few days ago… should not warrant such heavy penalty because it is in tandem with the core principles of our party and movement,” he said. “I stand by all the statements I made in the interviews.”
Political future: Jibrin to weigh options
Despite his disappointment, Jibrin stated that he would accept the party’s decision “in good faith and without grudges.” He acknowledged his desire to remain within the NNPP and continue serving his constituents, but said the party had made its choice.
“For the respect I have for the party, its members and leaders, I would have viewed this action as null and void… and test it in court. I will rather wish the party well and go in peace,” he remarked.
Jibrin also extended an olive branch to his supporters and colleagues, saying he welcomed those who wished to join him on his next political journey, while pledging to maintain “a peaceful and harmonious relationship” with those who chose to remain in the NNPP.
