The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the launch of a full investigation into the allegation that the political meeting of the immediate past governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, was disrupted with violence and sporadic gunshots.
According to the police, the incident happened after a political gathering, which was reportedly convened under the platform of the Social Democratic Party without any form of notification to the security agencies.

What police say about attack on El-Rufai
Speaking on the matter, the spokesperson of the police in the state, DSP Mansir Hassan, noted that despite repeated warnings by security agencies, the event was organised and the organisers went ahead with the event, which allegedly created the ground for the thugs to infiltrate and unleash violence.
The Punch reported that the police authority alleged that some political thugs attached to the former governor were part of those who shot to disrupt public peace and order in the state. Hassan disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, August 30.
Recall that El-Rufai recently dumped the ruling APC and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, he joined former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders in the coalition movement to adopt the ADC as their political platform ahead of the 2027 election.
Why Tinubu may win the 2027 election
Political pundits have claimed that the coalition may not be able to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election because of a lack of unity within the movement. Surprisingly, ahead of the bye-election into the federal and state constituencies in Kaduna, El-Rufai dumped the ADC candidates and asked his supporters to vote for the SDP candidates.
After the election, the former governor took to social media to warn the political support group called ADC Vanguard against circulating remarks he never made. The warning followed a post shared by the group on X that linked him to a scathing criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government.
El-Rufai took to his verified handle to dismiss the comments. He insisted that he operates his own channels where his opinions are clearly expressed and warned that any attempt to assign fabricated quotes to him would be rejected outright.

Soludo declares Labour Party, ADC 'dead'
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Anambra state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, had described the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as politically irrelevant in the state following the outcome of Saturday’s by-elections.
Speaking on Sunday, August 17, during a victory celebration in Nanka, the governor said the results showed that the parties backed by former governor Peter Obi and his allies could not stand against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
According to him, the opposition coalition wanted to use the by-election as a test of strength in Anambra, but the electorate rejected them. He said APGA secured more than three-quarters of the total votes cast, which he described as an emphatic rejection of the rival parties.
