Bye-Elections: APC Group Speaks on Barau's Role as Party Records Landslide Victory in Kano

Kano, Nigeria - A support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, noting that he played a key role in the party’s victory in the Ghari/Tsanyawa state constituency bye-election in Kano.
APC candidate Garba Ya’u Gwarmai secured 31,472 votes, defeating Yusuf Ali Maigado of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who polled 27,931, according to results declared by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University.

In a statement released on Friday, August 23, Dan Yusuf, president of the APC Vanguard, said Barau’s leadership and campaign efforts led to Gwarmai's victory against the NNPP candidate.
Yusuf said Senator Barau's leadership has been a game-changer for the APC, drawing in defectors from the NNPP and other parties. According to him, Barau's influence has weakened the NNPP, making the APC almost unstoppable under his guidance.
Group urges APC members to back Barau
The APC Vanguard is urging party members to unite behind Senator Barau, seeing the recent bye-election outcome as a stepping stone to bigger wins in 2027. They commended INEC for conducting a transparent process.
In a show of solidarity, the group called on party members, supporters, and all Nigerians to back Senator Barau's leadership for a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections.
Yusuf affirmed the APC Vanguard's unwavering support for the deputy Senate president, confident that his leadership will propel the party to victory not just in Kano, but across the North and the nation at large."

INEC urged to cancel Kano election
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC asked INEC to cancel the bye-election for Shanono/ Bagwai Constituency and the rerun election for Ghari constituency in Kano.
In a statement issued and signed by its national spokesperson, Felix Morka, the party said the elections were marred by “extreme violence and disruption by armed thugs across several polling units” in the affected areas.
According to Morka, “verifiable reports from Shanono and Bagwai local government areas and Ghari constituency have voters fleeing polling areas, with deployed security personnel overwhelmed by the violence, making the prospects of a credible election impossible.”
