Breaking: NNPP defeats APC in keenly contested Kano by-election

Kano state - The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has won the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election in Kano State.

The INEC returning officer for the election, Professor Hassan Adamu Shitu, announced he result at 12:36am on Sunday, August 16.

According to Daily Trust, Shittu declared the NNPP candidate, Dr Ali Hassan Kiyawa, winner with 16,198 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu, who polled 5,347 votes.

Legit.ng gathers that some party leaders of the NNPP staged a sit-in at the INEC office in Kano after accusing the commission of attempting to manipulate the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency by-election.

The spokesperson of the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said they would not leave the premises until the election results were announced.
