2027 Election: Ambode Rubbishes ADC Defection Report, Declares Support for Tinubu

Lagos state - Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

Ambode described the reports linking him to a governorship ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “false publications” aimed at causing distractions.

He described Presidnet Tinubu as a “proven achiever and result-oriented leader”.

According to Ambode, Tinubu’s administration has delivered significant reforms in pensions, student loan accessibility, youth empowerment, and national economic growth.

As reported by Vanguard, Ambode made this known in a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

“I wish to publicly reaffirm my absolute and unshakable loyalty to the APC, the party under which I had the privilege of serving Lagos State as governor in 2015, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my leader, mentor, and a tireless champion for Nigeria’s progress.”

The former governor urged APC faithful and Nigerians to ignore political distractions.

Ambode pledged to work tirelessly to strengthen the APC and ensure President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“Let it be clear: I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress. We will work together to ensure victory in 2027 to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.”

Recall that the Presidency defended against a newspaper editorial claiming there is hunger and hardship in Nigeria.

In a lengthy statement, President Tinubu said criticism of the economy is exaggerated and not fact-based, citing the naira’s performance as a yardstick.

Food and welfare measures were also outlined as some of the achievements of the current administration.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai fired a fresh shot at the APC and President Tinubu's administration.

El-Rufai's latest criticism of the ruling party and Tinubu was a reaction to the APC's attack on him over his comment during his visit to Sokoto.

The APC tagged the former governor as a threat to Nigeria's peace and unity after he emphasised that Nigerians must do everything to stop President Tinubu in 2027.
