History made was made on Saturday, November 6, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deployed the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the Anambra governorship election.

Legit.ng reporter has sighted the newly introduced BVAS device is a replacement to the Smart Card Reader (SCR) used in previous elections since 2015.

The BVAS has a dual capacity for fingerprint authentication and facial recognition. The Anambra governorship election is the first sub-national election where the technology is being used.

With this development, the use of the incident form is abolished. No voter without a genuine PVC will vote. No voter who has not been successfully accredited electronically using the BVAS will vote.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that INEC released key details concerning the Anambra governorship election.

The details contained in a document and seen by a Legit.ng reporter in Awka, ranges from data about polling units in different areas of the state and the candidates contesting for election.

According to INEC, in Anambra north senatorial district, there will be 1,820 polling units to cater for 846,994 registered voters.

In Anambra central senatorial district, there will be 3,987 polling units to cater for 887,295 registered voters.

Anambra election: Voters storm INEC office to pick up PVCs

In a related development, prospective voters in a last minute rush to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) converged at INEC office.

Legit.ng gathered that residents on Wednesday, November 3, lined at the commission's office in Dunukofia local government area of the the state to pick up their PVCs.

This was made known by the national electoral commission via a post shared on its official Facebook page.
