According to a report by WSMV, Sosh-Lightsy worked as the assistant dean at Middle Tennessee State University until her dismissal.

In the now-viral post, she said:

"Looks like ol' Charlie spoke his fate into existence. Hate begets hate. ZERO sympathy."

Her remark had prompted heated backlash on social media, with many calling her and the school out.

But reacting in a statement, the school confirmed that she had been sacked. The statement, signed by MTSU president Sidney A. McPhee, reads:

"An MTSU employee today offered inappropriate and callous comments on social media concerning the horrific and tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. The comments by this employee, who worked in a position of trust directly with students, were inconsistent with our values and have undermined the university’s credibility and reputation with our students, faculty, staff and the community at large. This employee has been fired effective immediately. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Kirk family."

Facebook reactions to Laura Sosh-Lightsy's comments

Tricia Miller Melton said:

"Charlie Kirk was NOT hateful. He was kind and encouraged discussion of ideas. It’s amazing that people label it as “hate” if someone simply and politely disagrees with your opinion."

Larry Odu said:

"Hate may have silenced a voice today, but it can’t silence the message. Charlie Kirk impacted thousands of young people, no matter which side of an issue they stood on. He had a way of not just sharing what he believed, but also explaining why and he was willing to dialogue with anyone. I hope those who had the chance to stand in front of the mic with him remember the respect he showed and the conversations he sparked. Rest in peace legend."
