A member of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Anuoluwa Omogoye, has reacted to the announcement by its General Superintendent, Pastor William Kumuyi, of modifications to two of the church’s long-standing marriage rules.

The revered cleric made these clarifications during the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, monitored by Legit.ng on Sunday, August 31.

During his sermon, he lifted the six-month courtship rule and the ban on courtship visits, adding that a lady can visit her intended husband, but must be accompanied by an elder.

Deeper Life member reacts to Kumuyi’s modification

Anuoluwa, on her Facebook page, hailed pastor Kumuyi for “finally scattering the table” regarding courtship rules in the church.

She said in her post:

“God bless Baba Kumuyi, honestly! Kai, the wisdom this man carries ehn, it’s not ordinary oo, straight from the throne of grace. Every word just pierces heart and spirit. Single Pringles Association, it’s like Baba has finally scattered the table. No hiding place again oo. After today’s message, na to go and marry. No more excuses!”

However, she also slammed those dragging the marriage committees and netizens who took the sermon out of context.

She said:

“But everybody, let’s be calming down. Yes, pastor Kumuyi has clarified some of the things disturbing us. But right now, it’s getting out of hand. Bloggers are carrying fake news. People are posting without context. Some are already dragging the MC's in the mood. Dragging everything into the mud.
“People who don’t understand are shouting. People who have half-understanding are twisting the message. And the real message, the true point, is being lost in the noise. Let’s not be carried away. Papa Kumuyi’s clarification is not an endorsement for what is wrong.”

Kumuyi sends powerful message to marriage commitee

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Pastor Kumuyi has warned Deeper Life’s marriage committees against rigid rules, stressing that such practices are pushing members away.

He clarified that the marriage committee is a church creation for guidance, not a biblical institution, and should not exercise undue authority.
