Her arrest came seven months after her employer terminated her contract for not providing sufficient proof of the qualifications she claimed to have.
According to the 29-year-old, Autumn Bardisa was nabbed at her home by officers after a seven-month investigation.
She worked for AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway in Palm Coast from July 2023 to January 2025 before her secret was discovered.
How AdventHealth hospital discovered alleged fake nurse
It all started when she was due for promotion and the hospital reviewed her credentials.
She allegedly provided a nursing license number which belonged to another nurse employed by AdventHealth at another hospital.
Her first name and the nurse she was using her licence number are the same. She claimed that she changed her name after marriage, but she could not provide her marriage license.
Her problems compounded when a colleague reported her to the authorities when they realised the nursing assistant licence she had used to get hired had expired.
Her employment was subsequently terminated, and an investigation was launched by the police.
At the time she was sacked, she had already provided medical services to 4,486 patients.
Flagler County Sheriff, Rick Staly said Autumn potentially put people's lives in danger.
He said, per BBC:
"This is one of the most disturbing cases of medical fraud we've ever investigated. This woman potentially put thousands of lives at risk by pretending to be someone she was not and violating the trust of patients, their families, AdventHealth and an entire medical community."
After her arrest, the alleged fake nurse was remanded in custody at Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
The story went viral and attracted a lot of comments on TikTok after it was posted by Brut America.
