Media editor reacts to Fish Magnet's demise
In an exclusive chat with Legit.ng, the Managing Editor of The Diadem Magazine, David Oletu, reacted to the tragic demise of Fish Magnet. In his words:
"I believe no matter how bad a land becomes, there will always be good in it—good that can give lasting hope. Fish Magnet was one of those rare lights. Sadly, while some people work to water the dry leaves so they can grow and bear fruit, others burn them with the fire of their guns and cut them down with the sharpness of their axes.
"Fish Magnet was a young man fighting to survive through honest, noble means in a place where many young people feel hopeless and misrepresented to the world. He was building something beautiful—not just for himself, but for others. Through his dried fish business, he was creating opportunities for other struggling youths. But his life was cut short by kidnappers who saw only money in his success after his business gained attention on social media..."

He continued:
"It’s a painful tragedy that should bring national mourning. We lost someone who was a solution, an asset to our economy, and a man with pure zeal to impact society through his hard work. Now we are left to ask: Should we hide our wins from the world? Should we bury the solutions we bring to a land crying for help? Should we shrink our light so that it doesn’t attract the darkness of envy and greed? These questions are the silent battles many good people now face.
"Young men like Fish Magnet uplift the image of our country, while people like the kidnappers tear it down. We are trying, each in our own way, to fix our image through good works. Yet, too often, we destroy our brightest lights with our own hands—out of greed, jealousy, and selfish ambition. This is not hunger. This is not just the economy. This is a lack of empathy, a disease in the heart.
"We must tighten security. We must teach our younger ones coming up to survive with empathy, not violence. It is unfair to keep punishing the good people of this land. Fish Magnet didn’t deserve what happened to him—and neither do the many others who have suffered in the same way."
