The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has begun a discreet investigation into the killing of Arise Television journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who lost her life during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Police investigate Abuja killing of Arise journalist
Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale condemned the incident, describing it as a cruel and senseless act that should never occur in any civilised society. He assured the public that the command will pursue the case with utmost seriousness until justice is achieved.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed in a statement that CP Adewale has directed a comprehensive inquiry into the crime.

According to her, intelligence and operational teams have already been mobilised with the task of identifying, locating, and arresting those behind the attack.

The command urged residents of the FCT to support ongoing efforts by volunteering timely and credible information that may assist investigators. It appealed for vigilance, advising citizens to raise immediate alarms when suspicious activities are noticed as this could help deter crimes of such nature.
CP Adewale extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the Arise TV community, describing Maduagwu as a promising professional whose passing represents a painful blow to journalism in Nigeria.
“The FCT Police Command commiserates deeply with the bereaved family and the media community and pledges that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.
Maduagwu was widely regarded as a dedicated anchor and producer who contributed significantly to the growth of Arise Television’s news coverage. Her sudden death has left colleagues and friends in deep shock, with tributes pouring in across media circles.
