FG Lists 14 States Where Fresh Flood May Happen in 3 Days

  • The federal government has predicted possible fresh floods in no less than 14 states across the federation
  • According to the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment, the floods are expected in 52 communities of the listed states

The federal government has sent a fresh warning to some communities in 14 states of the federation, including Lagos and Adamawa, about an impending flood.

This flood prediction was released by the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment on Tuesday, September 16. The prediction projected heavy rainfall in 52 communities in 14 states between Tuesday and Thursday, September 16 and 18.

According to The Punch, the flood prediction was contained in a statement signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, the director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department in the centre.

NiMet predicts thunderstorms in northern states

Earlier, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) urged some states to prepare for thunderstorms with moderate rains. The projected states are all in the north. The weather forecast was for Monday morning, September 15.

NiMet has released the weather update on Sunday, September 14. It projected isolated thunderstorms and moderate rain in six northern states. The states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi and Taraba.

Also, the agency projected a similar weather forecast for Monday in some parts of Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Katsina states.

Weather forecast in some states

In central states, NiMet predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and a chance of moderate rainfall in parts of Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue states. The agency also forecasted that isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across most parts of the region on Monday afternoon and evening.

Also, NiMet predicted that on Monday morning, a cloudy atmosphere with chances of moderate rains is expected in some parts of Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. While moderate rains are anticipated across most parts of the region on Monday afternoon and evening.
