Breaking: FCT Resident Doctors Declare Seven-Day Warning Strike, Details Emerge

FCT resident doctors list demand

NARD disclosed this in a communique issued by its president, Dr George Ebong, joined by other executive members.

As reported by Channels TV on Monday, September 8, the resident doctors described the FCT health system as a long-standing systemic failure requiring comprehensive and immediate reform.

Talks ongoing with FG - Minister

In a swift response to the development, the minister of state for health, Dr Isaq Salako, has expressed confidence that the federal government’s ongoing talks with the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) will prevent the strike.

“The National Association of Resident Doctors has issued an ultimatum, but I believe with the level of conversation ongoing, we had a meeting on Monday; we are making progress,” he said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Peter Obi raises alarm over Nigeria's health crisis

In another development, Legit.ng reported that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed dissatisfaction over Nigeria's health crisis.

He highlighted two dangerous global health records Nigeria is holding, further explaining the UN's report that stated, “if you live in Nigeria, you are simply waiting to die”.

FG bows to striking nurses' pressure

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made a major move following the ongoing nationwide nurses’ strike.

The minister of health, Prof Ali Pate, held a crucial meeting with the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

In another development, Legit.ng reported that over 16,000 Nigerian doctors emigrated in the last five to seven years, causing significant financial losses.

The exodus was driven by poor working conditions, inadequate pay, and limited opportunities, prompting the government to develop a National Policy on Health Workforce Migration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
