Data Show Nigeria's Military Performance in August

The Defence Headquarters has disclosed that the military killed several terrorists across the country in the month of August. According to the forces, the armed forces arrested 85 suspects and rescued 66 kidnap victims in total.

Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, the director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the development while addressing journalists at the defence headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 4.

Military operations in the northeast

According to the military, the Operation Hadin Kai troops in the North East eliminated hundreds of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, as 15 suspects, including a drug peddler, 13 collaborators and a gunrunner, were arrested, while eight kidnapped victims were rescued.

The military sustained the same energy in the North West, where terrorists were neutralised in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states by the troops. Also, 23 suspects were arrested, and 24 kidnapped victims were rescued.

Kangye further explained that the Operation Enduring Peace troops in the North Central also killed terrorists, 7 criminals were arrested, and 2 kidnapped victims were also rescued. He added that a suspect was arrested with cash of N3 million in the Bassa local government area.

Military performance in North Central

According to the military, the Operation Whirl Stroke in the FCT, Benue, Kogi, Taraba and Nasarawa, also rescued 13 hostages and arrested 9 extremists.

He also disclosed that the joint operations of the military across theatres recovered large quantities of ammunition, arms, explosives, motorcycles and vehicles overall.

The military boss explained that in August, the troops sustained intensified joint operations with the objectives of neutralising threats on national security, safeguarding Nigerians' lives and property and restoring stability.

Ex-General reveals how to end insecurity

This came barely one week after General Ishola Williams (retd.), the former chief of Defence Training and Planning, expressed confidence in Nigeria overcoming the insecurity challenges in the country within six months.

The former military general disclosed that the government did not have to keep buying weapons, adding that “all these problems can be solved within six months. Reorganise the security agencies.”

Speaking on Friday, August 29, on Channels Television, he stressed the need to maintain the weapons Nigeria currently have in its military arsenal in the fight against the criminal elements in the country.

DHQ orders ex-soldiers on the protest ground

Legit.ng earlier reported that the DHQ has directed that the former soldiers staging a protest at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance vacate the premises.

Markus Kanye, the spokesperson of the military, explained that the former military officers had earlier been educated about the situation.
