Police spokesman Williams Ovye-Aya disclosed the development during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Tuesday.
He stated that the Omala Police Division received a distress call shortly after the second-class traditional ruler was reportedly kidnapped.
According to Ovye-Aya, Wada was returning from a traditional council meeting held in Abejukolo, the headquarters of Omala LGA, when he was ambushed at Ojuwo Ugweche.
Armed assailants reportedly intercepted his convoy and forcibly led him into the surrounding bush at gunpoint.
Security Forces Mobilised for Rescue Operation
Ovye-Aya confirmed that the police had swiftly mobilised a joint rescue team comprising quick response units, local hunters, and vigilantes to comb the forest in search of the abducted leader.
“As we speak, the security operatives are combing the forest to track down the kidnappers and rescue him safe and sound,” he said.
The paramount ruler of Omala LGA, the Onu Ife, Boniface Musa, also verified the incident and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe return of the district head.
Background of Regional Insecurity
The News Agency of Nigeria recalled that in 2024, several communities in the area, including Bagana, Bagaji, Agojeju Odo, and Ajokpachi Odo, suffered fatal attacks and arson by bandits.
In response, the Federal Government deployed military detachments and other security forces to restore peace in the region.
As of the time of filing this report, the kidnappers had not made contact with Wada’s family nor issued any demands. The situation remains tense as security personnel continue their search operations.
