- Obi’s lawyers demand deletions of posts and a public apology, warning of a lawsuit if ignored

Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has openly challenged Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to follow through with his legal threat over alleged defamatory statements.
His remarks followed a legal letter issued by Obi’s lawyers demanding a public apology and the removal of a series of social media posts deemed damaging to the politician’s reputation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, 1 September, Adeyanju wrote:
“Peter Obi must sue me; he must not chicken out. His 7-day ultimatum expires today, where are the court processes? It ends today.”
Obi’s lawyers demand apology and deletions
Obi’s legal team, led by Alex Ejesieme and Co., accused Adeyanju of repeatedly describing their client in disparaging terms, including “a religious bigot, a fraud, scum, and a thief.”
The letter stated these remarks were intended to “maliciously damage” Obi’s reputation locally and internationally.
It further demanded that Adeyanju delete the posts, issue an unreserved public apology across his platforms, and publish the apology in three national newspapers.
"Failure to comply, the letter warned, would lead to a lawsuit," Obi said.
Adeyanju dismisses lawsuit threat
Reacting with apparent nonchalance, Adeyanju said he “laughed so hard” upon receiving the letter, stressing that he was ready to defend himself in court.
Known for his blunt commentary, the activist has in recent months become one of Obi’s fiercest critics, questioning both his leadership style and his Labour Party movement.
Nigerians react on social media
The legal spat has generated heated debate among Nigerians online. Some labelled it a battle between a “social media lawyer” and a “social media president,” while others challenged both men to settle the matter in court.

This clash comes after Adeyanju previously alleged that Obi attempted to offer him money in the run-up to the 2023 elections. The activist claimed he rejected the offer, sparking further tensions between the two men.
Despite their ongoing feud, Adeyanju insists he is prepared for a courtroom showdown, while Obi’s camp has yet to confirm whether proceedings will indeed be filed.
