The Olu of Arigbajo in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Timothy Oluwole Sunday Mosaku, has passed away, according to a statement released by his family on Friday.

The revered monarch, who was born in 1936, reportedly joined his ancestors after decades of dedicated service to his community and the traditional institution.

Burial rites for Olu of Arigbajo announced

The family of the late Oba Mosaku confirmed the burial arrangements in a release made available to PUNCH Online. According to the announcement, a wake-keeping service is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 25 September 2025, at the Olu of Arigbajo palace by 5 p.m.

The interment service will follow on Friday, 26 September, at St. John’s Anglican Church, Arigbajo, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, commencing at 11 a.m.

Oba Mosaku’s rise in Arigbajo traditional leadership

Oba Mosaku’s journey through the ranks of traditional leadership in Arigbajo was marked by steady progression and recognition. He was appointed Otun Baale of Arigbajo in 2001 and later elevated to Baale in 2008. In 2010, the Ogun State Government formally gazetted him as the Oba of Arigbajo, solidifying his status as a first-class traditional ruler.

His coronation and installation were conducted by the Alake of Egbaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, in a ceremony that underscored the significance of his role within the wider Egba traditional structure.

In a December 2023 interview with Vanguard, Oba Mosaku traced the origins of Arigbajo to his forefather, Kusi Mamowolo, a renowned hunter credited with founding the community. The monarch was born to Pa Samuel Olaonipekun Mosaku, son of Egunleti Mosaku—the first son of Mamowolo—highlighting a lineage deeply embedded in Arigbajo’s history.
