Soludo Declares Labour Party, ADC “Dead” in Anambra After By-Election Wins
- Governor Chukwuma Soludo says Labour Party and ADC no longer hold political ground in Anambra after APGA swept Saturday’s by-elections
- He mocked Peter Obi’s backing of ADC candidates, describing the coalition as irrelevant after APGA secured over 75 percent of the votes
- INEC declared APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu and Ifeoma Azikiwe winners in the senatorial and assembly races, cementing the party’s dominance
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has described the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as politically irrelevant in the state following the outcome of Saturday’s by-elections.
Speaking on Sunday during a victory celebration in Nanka, the governor said the results showed that the parties backed by former governor Peter Obi and his allies could not stand against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We showed it yesterday. Labour Party is dead,” Soludo told cheering party supporters dressed in APGA’s traditional cock-themed attire.
ADC trying to test waters - Soludo
According to him, the opposition coalition wanted to use the by-election as a test of strength in Anambra, but the electorate rejected them. He said APGA secured more than three-quarters of the total votes cast, which he described as an emphatic rejection of the rival parties.
The governor also mocked Obi’s alliance with the ADC, describing it as an experiment that collapsed on its first major outing.
“They wanted to use it as a test case for the new concoction called ADC in Anambra, but that election was won by APGA; we won with about 77%, a very emphatic statement. The signal we sent was that both ADC and Labour Party are dead in Anambra,” he added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial District election.

Obi's agents attempted rigging
Soludo alleged in a viral video circulating on social media that some agents of the opposition attempted to deviously rig the election by sneaking in pre-thumb-printed ballot papers.
He said they had to resort to the extreme and ignoble choice after realising there was nothing in it for them and they lacked the public pull to win an election.
He said:
"The new concoction called Peter Obi ADC came with already trump printed ballot papers but they were caught. Is that how they want to rule Nigeria?"
APGA floors ADC, APC in by-elections
Nwachukwu polled 90,408 votes, defeating Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,847, and Donald Amangbo of the ADC, who managed 2,889 votes. The election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in July 2024.
Similarly, APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe emerged winner of the Onitsha North Constituency 1 seat in the state House of Assembly.
The constituency, which is regarded as Obi’s political base, was one of the areas where the governor said the so-called allied force tried to prove its relevance but failed.
Soludo described the contest as a coalition of opposition figures throwing themselves into the ring but eventually being rejected by the people.
The governor, who is seeking re-election in November 2025, has openly reaffirmed his loyalty to APGA and his friendship with President Bola Tinubu, noting recently that he had no apologies for a relationship that has lasted over two decades.
