Top Southeast Governor Gives N101.895m to Miyetti Allah, Others

Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi, has given out compensation to members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and other victims of the attacks on the Nkalaha Community in Ishielu local government area of the state.

The compensation was for the loss of lives, destruction of properties and the killing of over 140 cows during the February 2, 2025, attack on the community.

Governor Nwifuru, who was represented by his deputy, Patricia Obila, disclosed that the total of N101.895million has been shared with the victims, with the hope of assisting them in alleviating their losses and suffering

Governor Nwifuru, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Patricia Obila, said that a total of N101.895million has been disbursed to the victims to assist them in alleviating their sufferings and the losses.

According to Obilo, no less than 18 families lost their members, and they have received N38 million. Those who lost their properties in the attack have been given a total of N41 million. Others whose cash was burnt in their houses got N816,000.

The deputy governor also disclosed that members of the Miyetti Allah who lost their cattle have also been compensated with a total of N20 million. Four people, who lost their high-power motorcycles, were destroyed in the attack, got N4 million.

Ebonyi government reiterates its commitment to peace

She further disclosed that the Ebonyi government was committed to peaceful co-existence in the state. She then advised the people and herders to avoid further crises.

The deputy governor explained that Governor Nwifuru will continue to support victims of disasters in the state, adding that peace-building, security and infrastructural development in the agenda of the governor.

In his reaction, Sidiqi Gidado, the national deputy director general of MACBAN, said that about 140 cows were killed during the crisis and commended Governor Nwifuru for the compensation that its members got.

Gidado explained that the community had set up local vigilantes and pledged that MACBAN would work with the government and community to sustain peace. The community and the herders have welcomed the gesture of the governor and promised to work toward peace in the area.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has announced N10,000 to each of the workers in the southeast state.

The governor made the announcement at the celebration of the 2025 International Workers' Day in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Thursday, May 1.

Governor Nwifuru subsequently described the workers as the engine room of his administration and promised to prioritise their welfare.
