Breaking: Tinubu Makes Fresh Appointments, Details Emerge

State House, Abuja - President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of veteran journalist and public affairs analyst, Louis Odion, executive commissioner (operations) and Ummusalma Isiyaku Rabiu as executive commissioner (corporate services) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The appointment, conveyed in an official letter dated August 12, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

According to the letter, Odion is to immediately assume duties in an acting capacity pending the fulfillment of the confirmation requirement.

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information & strategy, confirmed the appointments in a statement issued on August 13, 2025.

Who is Odion?

Odion from Edo State is a veteran journalist and former Senior Technical Assistant to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Media. Before that, he was Commissioner for Information in Edo State.

Odion holds two Master's degrees, one in Modern War Studies from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, and the other in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.

Who is Ummusalma Isiyaku Rabiu?

Ummusalma, 35, from Kano State, founded the Usir Foundation, a non-profit organisation that empowers underprivileged individuals and communities through education, skills development, and humanitarian initiatives.

She has a degree in Business Administration.

A committed grassroots politician, Ms Rabiu has built a reputation for connecting with her community, championing inclusive governance, and promoting youth and women's political participation.

The FCCPC is the federal government agency tasked with safeguarding consumer rights, ensuring fair competition in the marketplace, and protecting the public from unfair trade practices.

Tinubu appoints governing council for Ogoni varsity

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that President Tinubu appointed Prof. Don Mon Baridam as the Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the governing council of the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology in Rivers state.

Tinubu also announced the appointment of Prof. Chinedu Mmom, a professor of geography and former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, as the vice-chancellor of the institution.

Bayo Onanuga, a presidential aide, confirmed this in a statement released on Wednesday, July 30, adding that Tinubu also appointed principal officers of federal university in Ogoniland.

Tinubu appoints house speaker
