Ijebu, Ogun state - Police operatives in Ogun state have arrested two men in connection with the unlawful possession of three human skulls in the Ijebu area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said in a statement issued in Abeokuta that the discovery was made during a routine operation, Channels Television reported.

“On Monday, 11 August 2025, at about 1400hrs, a team of Mobile Police Officers from 71 PMF Awa Ijebu was conducting a stop-and-search exercise along the Ijebu Ode/Ibadan Expressway at Refugees Camp Junction, Oru Ijebu,” she explained.

She added:

“During the operation, the officers intercepted one Kadir Owolabi, who was riding a motorcycle. A search of his luggage led to the shocking discovery of three human skulls.”

Odutola said further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, 53-year-old Jamiu Yisa, behind the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat.

She added that the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case for discreet investigations.

Police vow to tackle crime decisively

The Ogun state Police Command reiterated its commitment to clamp down on criminal activities and called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

“We assure members of the public of trust, confidentiality, and protection of their identity,” the statement read.

Ogun: Another man caught with human skull

In another development, operatives of the Ogun state police command have apprehended a man accused of exhuming and beheading a corpse for ritualistic purposes in the Car Wash area of the state.

The command’s public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the suspect, Lekan Akinyemi, was arrested on Monday, June 24, after a resident reported suspicious activity around his father’s grave.

As reported by The Punch, the resident, Nojeem Balogun, reported that upon inspecting his father's grave, he discovered that the corpse's head had been severed.

Police arrest 4 over missing newborn in hospital

Previously, Legit.ng reported that four suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged theft of a newborn baby in a hospital in Ekiti state.

It was gathered that the newborn baby went missing on Monday morning at the Okeyinmi Health Centre in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

An eyewitness said the baby’s disappearance was noticed when nurses were preparing to care for her on Monday morning. It was gathered that the baby was delivered on Sunday evening and was nowhere to be found on Monday morning.
