26 Countries to Storm Katsina as Date to Celebrate World Hausa Day Emerges: “This is the First Time"

Katsina state - The Katsina state Government has announced that preparations are nearly complete to join the global celebration of World Hausa Day, marked annually on 26 August.

The Executive Secretary of the state’s History and Culture Bureau, Dr Kabir Ali-Masanawa, made the announcement during a press briefing in Katsina on Tuesday.
He revealed that this year’s event is expected to draw participants from across the globe to honour the history, culture, and heritage of the Hausa people.
“This is the first time the event will receive full state support, with Governor Dikko Radda personally committed to ensuring its success,” Ali-Masanawa said.
He added that the day recognised the vast cultural influence of the Hausa, whose historical empires spanned multiple countries.
“At least 24 countries will join in celebrating the day this year. We recently visited the Emir’s Palace in Daura to seek his blessings and reaffirmed our pride in Hausa history," he said.
Showcasing music, dance, and cuisine
Ali-Masanawa said the celebration would feature music, dance, traditional attire, and a culinary showcase reflecting the hospitality for which the Hausa people are known, Punch reported.
“Visitors will witness how we prepare, serve, and enjoy our dishes, and also learn why our cuisine is worth travelling for,” he noted.
He assured that Katsina remained safe and was steadily improving in security, making it both a cultural and Islamic tourism destination. The main celebration will be held at the Emir of Daura’s palace in Daura.

Committee member Malam Abdulbaki Jari explained that World Hausa Day was first marked in 2015 to celebrate the Hausa language and culture.
He said Hausa is now the 11th most spoken language globally, with projections indicating it could rise further by 2050.
“This is our opportunity to position Hausa culture alongside the world’s most celebrated traditions. Tourists travel to Paris or Rome for history — we want them to come to Katsina for Hausa heritage,” Jari said.
International participation
According to Jari, dignitaries from around the world will attend, with Hausa communities from the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, and, for the first time, the Netherlands participating, Vanguard reported.
“Photos and videos from celebrations across continents will also be shared to foster unity among the global Hausa community,” he added.
The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar-Faruq, a strong supporter of the event and promoter of Hausa identity, is expected to address the gathering.
Kano gov donates N5m, land to families of 22 deceased athletes
Previously, Legit.ng reported that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led Kano state government has announced the donation of N5 million and a plot of land to each of the families of the 22 athletes who died in a tragic auto crash.
