He was brought to court on Wednesday, August 7, and arraigned on three counts related to conspiracy, malicious damage, and breach of peace.
Prosecution outlines offences of Ondo pastor
According to the charge sheet, Boluwaji and others still at large were accused of unlawfully entering a disputed piece of land in Omilosu via Bolorunduro, Ondo East Local Government Area, on 25 November 2024.
The charge read in part:
“That you, Adefiju Boluwaji, and others at large… did conspire to commit a felony to wit: forcible entry and malicious damage to properties… contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
The court also heard that Boluwaji and his alleged accomplices destroyed cocoa, plantain, palm and kolanut trees belonging to Reverend David Akinadewo Adekahunsi.
Ondo pastor pleads not guilty
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His lawyer, Mr Oguntuwase, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
“The defendant is willing to stand trial and has no intention of fleeing again,” Oguntuwase said.
Prosecutor opposes bail
However, the police prosecutor objected, stating that Boluwaji had evaded arrest for months and should only be granted bail under strict conditions.
“The defendant has a history of fleeing and should not be granted bail lightly,” the prosecutor argued.
