Ahmed Hardawa, the chairman of the Bauchi Independent Electoral Commission, has died. His death was disclosed in a statement by Mukhtar Gidado, the special adviser on media and publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, on Wednesday, July 30.
According to Gidado, Governor Bala received the news with a great sense of deep sorrow, describing his demise as a profound loss. The governor then extended his condolences to the family of the late electoral chief.

Where did the former INEC REC die?
The statement further revealed that the Bauchi electoral chief died in an Abuja hospital following a brief illness on Tuesday, July 29. He was described as a patriotic Nigerian, an accomplished public servant and a distinguished statesman.
Governor Bala said that Hardawa's meritorious service to Nigeria at large and Bauchi state in particular is the long-lasting legacy he left behind.
Before his death, Hardawa was the former resident electoral commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Nasarawa and Taraba States. He was credited for discharging his duties with diligence, unwavering integrity and fairness.
The Bauchi governor disclosed that Hardawa played a major role in strengthening the democratic system at the grassroots as the chairman of BASIEC, as he promoted credible and transparent electoral processes.
Emir of Gusau dies
His death came barely one week after the demise of another prominent figure in the northern Nogeria. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, died in Abuja at the age of 71, following a protracted illness. He died on Thursday, July 24.
It was learnt that the 16th Emir became his father's successor, who died on March 16, 2015. The late emir was a former civil servant who rose to the position of Permanent Secretary in the service during the old Sokoto and Zamfara States. Bello served as the Emir of Gusau for ten years and some months.
His death was confirmed by Governor Dauda Lawal's spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, who also commiserated with the people of the state over the loss on the same day. Governor Lawal described the death of the Emir as a personal loss, adding that he had been a supportive royal father and a competent leader, who dedicated much of himself to making the state better.

Politicians went to pray at Buhari's grave
Legit.ng earlier reported that former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, and was buried on Tuesday, July 15, has continued to receive prayers from families, associates and political opponents
Buhari was given a state funeral at his residence, which was attended by several dignitaries in and outside the country and led by President Bola Tinubu.
Following the burial, the former president's gravesite has been visited by a list of opposition leaders, including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
