N1.85bn Meant for Arms, Ammunition Uncovered in Ex-Chief Of Army Staff Buratai's Home? ICPC Reacts

FCT, Abuja - The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered N170 million cash, $220,965, G-Wagon and other items from a military contractor in Abuja.

This was disclosed by Azuka Ogugua, spokesperson of the commission, in a statement on Friday, June 24.

Ogugua said acting on intelligence, the commission raided a residence in Wuse 2, Abuja, where the expensive items were found.

The commission also debunked a media report claiming that the ICPC recovered N1.85 billion from a house and office said to belong to former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai in Abuja.

The ICPC said contrary to the inaccurate and concocted reports, it was the residence of Mr Kabiru Sallau, a military contractor that was raided in Wuse 2, Abuja, based on a tip off.

Property owner arrested

According to the ICPC, the property where the huge money was recovered was owned by the owner of K Salam Construction Company, a military contractor.

The commission added that it has arrested the company's managing director, Kabiru Sallau, noting the investigation is ongoing.

The statement reads:

"The attention of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been drawn to some inaccurate and concocted reports in the media about the seizure of multibillion-naira cash, dollars, Rolex watches stockpiled in an Abuja property.

"The Commission wishes to state that ICPC operatives raided a property in Wuse 2 of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Thursday, 16th June, 2022 between 5:00pm and 12:00am in suspicion of money laundering. Facts available for the time being indicates that the property is owned by owner of K Salam Construction Company, a military contractor.
"The Commission recovered money and other items from the property viz. N175,706,500; $220,965; G-Wagon; 2022 editions of BMW and Mercedes Benz cars; customized mobile phones; several designer wrist watches, including three Rolexes, and some property documents.
"The Commission arrested the Managing Director of K Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited, Mr. Kabiru Sallau and investigation is ongoing.
"The Commission is yet to conclude its investigation and prefers not to preempt its outcome and also avoid the frenzy of a media trial."

ICPC to investigate constituency projects across Lagos, Kano, FCT, Rivers, 14 other states

In another report, the ICPC has said it would track and monitor constituency projects across 18 states of the federation.

This disclosure was made by Azuka Ogugua, the spokesperson of the anti-graft agency on Friday, May 6 in Abuja the nation’s capital.

According to the ICPC, states whose constituency projects are to be tracked include, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Kano states.
