Just In: Court Rejects Life Sentence On Sotitobire Chapel Founder, Prophet Alfa, Over Missing Boy

  • In 2019, The founder of Sotitobire Praising Chapel, Prophet Babatunde Alfa, was sentenced to life imprisonment after a one-year-old kid was missing in his church
  • The kid, Kolade Gold, was reported missing in Prophet Alfa's Chapel has and the prophet was handed a life jail term alongside five others who were found culpable of kidnapping
  • Finally, on Friday, an Appeal Court in Akure has rejected the judgment and sets free Prophet Alfa

Akure, Ondo state- On Friday, December 3, the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo state, quashes the judgment of the Ondo State High Court and set free the founder of the Sotitobire Praising Chapel, Prophet Babatunde Alfa.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that Alfa was sentenced to life imprisonment over the disappearance of a one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole, in his church in 2019.

The Sotitobire founder had asked the appeal court to set aside his life sentence conviction by the court.

The court ruled that the circumstantial evidence the High Court relied was not enough to convict him.

Justice Gamma Barka, who read the judgment on behalf of other judges, subsequently discharged and acquitted Alfa.

Recall that the prophet was arraigned before an Akure magistrate court by the Department of Security Services.

The cleric was arraigned on Monday, December 23, 2019, alongside six other defendants. The arraignment happened shortly after the disappearance of the child inside the church in November 2019.

Justice Olusegun Odusola, the sitting judge, said the circumstantial evidence against the accused people was proved.

It should be noted that some of the other defendants jailed were Omodara Olayinka, Margaret Oyebola, and Grace Ogunjobi.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Pastor Izuchukwu Anoloba, aged 35, has been arrested alongside others by the operatives of the Imo state police command for kidnapping a Catholic priest, Fr Fidelis Ekemgba.

It was reported that Anoloba and his gang members who were paraded by the state's commissioner of police, Rabiu Hussaini, held the priest for over seven days and made him to pay a ransom of N5 million to them.

Legit.ng gathered that the Imo police chief, Hussaini, said the pastor was arrested in Lagos following intelligence gathering by men of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command.

In another report, Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe of Celestial Church of Christ Global Genesis Parish has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for defrauding a United Kingdom-based woman.
