EFCC Operatives, Prison Officials Clash over Ex-pension boss, Abdulrasheed Maina’s Custody

Abuja- The atmosphere was tensed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, November 8, as officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disagreed with officials of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) over whose custody the jailed former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reforms Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, should be.

The Punch reports that though Justice Okon Abang sentenced Maina and held that Maina should be with NCoS but EFCC operatives differed with their counterparts in NCoS.

The security operatives from both the EFCC and NCoS had an altercation while attempting to take custody of Maina.

After the judgement was delivered, prison officials, who were already on standby in the courtroom and within the court premises, led Maina out.

However, trouble started when EFCC operatives insisted that Maina must go in their vehicle. But after the clash, our correspondent, gathered that NCoS took custody of Maina.

Earlier, Maina, was convicted and sentenced by the court to 61 years imprisonment, PM News also reported.

He was convicted for money laundering and stealing N2 billion belonging to pensioners.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), said it has recovered houses from a public officer in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The commission disclosed 241 houses were reclaimed from a public servant and 60 houses from another public servant.

This summed it up to 301 houses owned by two Nigerians following shortfall of housing units in the country.

Court freezes bank accounts of Northern state government, gives reason

In another report, a Federal High Court in Abuja has made an interim order freezing bank accounts of the Benue state government over its involvement in securing an alleged N333 million loan in 2008.

It was reported that Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge, gave the order on Wednesday, October 27, following an ex-parte motion filed by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

Legit.ng gathered that the judge also directed that the bank accounts of a firm named HPPS Multilink Services Ltd be frozen pending the hearing and the determination of the substantive suit.
