Madina, Saudi Arabia - Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, says President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, October 27, prayed for peace and security in the country.

President Buhari had on Monday, October 25, departed Abuja for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to participate in the investment conference organised by the Future Investment Initiative Institute.

Giving an update about the president's activities in Saudi Arabia, Shehu in a statement posted on Facebook said the president on Wednesday stopped over in Madina and offered “intense prayers” for the country.

Apart from security and peace, he said the president also offered prayers for the COVID-19 ravaged economy to fully recover for the benefit of Nigerians.

Legit.ng gathers that the president was also scheduled to proceed to Makkah for the performance of the Umrah (lesser Hajj).

The statement reads in part:

“The President who had earlier been received at the Prince Muhammad Abdulaziz Airport, Madinah, by the Deputy Governor of the Region, Prince Sa’ud Al-Faisal, spent quality time at the Mosque of the Holy Prophet Muhammed, Islam’s second holiest, engaging in prayers and recitation of the Holy Qur’an.
“President Buhari and the delegation prayed for the well-being of the nation and its people and for the full restoration of peace and security in Nigeria and around the globe. Prayers for the economy, ravaged by the pandemic to fully recover for the benefit of the nation and its people, were also offered."

Nigerians react

Ahmed Aliyu Lanle commented on Facebook:

"May Allah accept his prayers and restore lasting peace in our dear nation and the world at large."

Sabiu Adam said:

"May Allah subhanallah wataala accept from all of us, may he restore peace in our dear Nation."

Blaq Prince said:

"Prayer without hardworking is fruitless. Declare this bandits as terrorist and also published the names of those sponsoring them."

UN secretary-general gives President Buhari important assignment

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, urged Buhari to use his leadership position to ensure stability in West Africa, in terms of democracy and good governance.

According to a statement by one of the spokespersons to the president, Femi Adesina, the UN secretary-general said this at a meeting with Buhari at the 76th session of the United Nations general assembly (UNGA) that took place in New York.

Adesina added that the president also expressed commitment to supporting the UN “towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.
