I’m Afraid For my Life, Head of Anti-Graft Agency Cries Out

Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, the suspended chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission has expressed concern that some people are after his life.

The embattled anti-graft boss speaking to Daily Trust said this over the charge of false information filed against him by the Nigeria police, adding that he was afraid of his safety.

Rimin-Gado while maintaining that he was not afraid of the charges filed alleged that the indictment was a clear case of persecution.

According to him, the charges filed is part of plans by the police to harm him. He also questioned why the police, who had earlier found nothing against him have now come up with the charge of him giving false information.

DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesman of the police confirming the development said the report filed was the outcome of the investigation conducted by the command.

He explained that this was following a petition it received from the state’s House of Assembly and accountant general.

Kano Assembly suspends head of anti-graft agency, discloses reason

Recall that Rimingado was suspended by the Kano state House of Assembly. The House suspended the former anti-graft boss on Monday, July 5, for one month for refusing to accept a level four civil servant deployed to the commission as a financial officer by the accountant general of the state.

The suspension, according to the state’s assembly, followed a letter of complaint sent to the house over the matter by the office of the accountant-general of the state.

The spokesman for the Assembly, Uba Abdullahi, said the lawmakers took the decision after a series of deliberations on the floor of the House.

Police detain Kano anti-graft boss Rimin-Gado for alleged forgery

In a related development, the suspended chairman of the Kano anti-corruption commission was detained by the state police command for alleged forgery and false declaration.

Rimingado's detention came few hours after the House of Assembly ordered the state government to sack, arrest and prosecute him due to several petitions against him.

At plenary held on Monday, July 26, and presided over by the speaker, Hamisu Chidari, the lawmakers ordered Rimin-Gado's immediate sack and prosecution.
