Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has sparked a wave of conversation in the Nigerian entertainment scene after publicly questioning the recent “Big 3” narrative that has dominated the music industry.

In a recent interview, Tiwa Savage boldly asserted that it is time for the industry to reconsider who is considered one of Nigeria's top talents, saying that Tems, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, deserves to be included in that select circle.

However, Tiwa questioned the criteria used to identify the industry's 'Big 3', claiming that the narrative ignores the remarkable achievements of prominent women in the Afrobeats genre.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, she questioned the restrictive branding of female vocalists and said that Tems deserves top-tier respect.

“Think about it, certain types of artists get paid more. So, they get the opportunity to spend more on influencers and radio play, so you are going to hear their music way more.
“Also, I feel like it is unfair to have a conversation about the Top 3 and not mention someone like Tems. Are you serious?” she asked.

Tems’ Meteoric Rise

Tems rose to prominence in 2020 following her duet with Wizkid on 'Essence'.

She received her first Grammy in 2023 for her work on 'Wait For U' in 2022.

Tems won her second Grammy in 2025 for 'Best African Performance'.
