Nedu Wazobia in N83m Collapsed Contract Controversy as Court Takes Strong Action

  • A Lagos court has stopped police from arresting OAP Nedu Wazobia over an N83m charity project gone sour.
  • The entertainer insisted that his business partners turned a civil dispute into a police matter despite a clean investigation report
  • Details emerge of alleged harassment, detention, and even seizure of passports linked to the failed deal

Nigerian on-air personality and comedian, Chinedu Emmanuel Ani, better known as Nedu Wazobia, has secured a major legal victory after months of tension surrounding a collapsed business partnership.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Nedu was involved in another messy controversy that included VDM.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Inspector-General of Police and senior officers at Alagbon from arresting or detaining Nedu in connection with a contractual dispute that has dragged on since 2024, reports the Vanguard.

Justice D. Dipeolu, in a ruling on an ex-parte application, ordered the police to keep off until the court determines the substantive case on the enforcement of fundamental rights.

Nedu, from charity dream to messy breakdown

According to court documents, Nedu and his team entered into a partnership with the Metropolitan School of Business and Management, alongside Victor and Tolulope Ariyibi-Oke, for a fundraising project aimed at helping underprivileged students pay school fees.

The high-profile gala, held in March 2024, was backed by sponsorship commitments worth over N83 million. But while the event pulled pledges and cash donations, cracks began to show when the respondents allegedly demanded a refund of N60 million.

Nedu’s team insisted there was no justification for such a refund, leading to a breakdown of the partnership and the beginning of a legal and police tussle.

In their application, the comedian and five others told the court that the police had already investigated the matter for nine months and concluded it was a civil issue. The police legal department also issued a formal advice confirming that no crime had been committed.

But in a surprising twist, the respondents allegedly filed another petition to a different unit at the Alagbon office. This, according to Nedu’s camp, led to renewed summons, harassment, and even alleged assault on their former lawyer.

Some of the applicants also claimed they were unlawfully detained in July 2025, while others had their international passports seized.

Nedu in the middle of a courtroom drama

For fans who mostly know Nedu as the witty voice behind hilarious skits and radio banter, the unfolding legal battle offers a different glimpse into the challenges entertainers face off the mic.

The comedian has not personally commented on the fresh ruling, but insiders say the case has been a huge distraction from his creative work.
