Nigerian singer Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, professionally known as Reekado Banks, has admitted that his decision to leave Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records in 2018 was not as smooth as many thought.
The Oluwa Ni hitmaker, who rose to fame under the powerhouse label, said in a recent chat with reality star Teddy A on Echoo Room that he realised too late how much he had underestimated the music business.
According to the singer, his departure wasn’t the result of any fallout but rather a personal decision that he later discovered was premature.

“I thought I was ready” – Reekado
Reekado explained that after his three-year contract expired, he allowed it to run two extra years without renewing. By 2018, he was determined to start his own journey.
He revealed:
“It wasn’t a conflict situation. I was young and fixated on what I wanted to do. I thought I was ready to leave and handle things on my own."
But the singer quickly admitted that reality hit him hard once he started running his own imprint, Banks Music.
He added:
“As soon as I jumped into the sea as well, I realised how premature it was."
For many fans, Reekado’s time at Mavin remains unforgettable. From winning Rookie of the Year in 2014 to clinching the controversial Next Rated award in 2015, his growth under Don Jazzy was meteoric.
Reekado confessed that though he was eager to spread his wings, he didn’t fully grasp the business side of things at the time.
