Nike Postpones Collaboration with Travis Scott Over Astroworld Tragedy

Nike has postponed the release of a sneaker they worked on in collaboration with embattled US rapper Travis Scott over the Astroworld Festival tragedy.

The shoe dubbed the Air Max 1 X Cactus Jack was scheduled to hit stores on December 7, but the deaths of 10 people at the concert have halted the plans, TMZ reports.
Via an announcement on Monday, November 15, Nike said they shelved plans to release the shoe out of respect to those affected by the tragedy.
"Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack," Nike said Monday.

Nike did not provide further details on when or if the shoes will eventually go on sale.
Scott cancelled
The move by Nike is the latest in a string of corporates seemingly distancing themselves from the rapper following the Friday, November 5 incident that left 10 people dead.
The Houston Rockets also scrapped a promotional event featuring Scott, replacing it with a moment of silence for the victims.
Also, Fortnite decided to remove the Travis Scott emote from its game.
Crowd surge
The fatalities happened after concertgoers were squeezed with no means of escape at the sold-out event.
The concert that attracted 50,000 fans saw the crowd at the back surge forward, compressing the people at the front.
Footage from the concert showed the rapper and music producer pause his performance on seeing an ambulance moving through the densely packed crowd.
Hours earlier, one person was injured as people rushed through the concert’s VIP entrance. Police are investigating the incident.
In 2019, three people were injured at the same festival as fans rushed to enter.
9-year-old boy dies
Legit.ng previously reported that Ezra Blout, a nine-year-old boy who fell into the rowdy crowd at the festival, died in hospital.
The boy fell to the ground after his dad passed out when the chaos unfolded at the concert and had been on life support since the night of the incident.
His dad filed a lawsuit against Scott and the event organisers.
