The Dangote Group expansion plans in industries such as sugar, cement, and oil and gas will likely result in the creation of many jobs. The Nation reported that this is anticipated to provide thousands of jobs for young people.

This was disclosed by Mr. Devakumar Edwin, vice president of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, during a tour of the Dangote Refinery by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), Lagos Council.

According to Edwin, the Dangote sector is growing in Nigeria and other African nations to satisfy rising demand and generate more job opportunities.

Edwin stated that 4,000 trucks powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) would be deployed to support the distribution of refined petroleum products throughout Nigeria. This move ensures that consumers benefit fully from local refining and the resulting drop in fuel prices.

He explained that the deployment of the CNG-powered fleet is a strategic move to lower fuel distribution logistical costs, which significantly impact the ultimate pump price.

“The deployment of these 4,000 CNG-powered trucks will help us pass down the benefits of domestic refining and the reduction in product prices to consumers. The aim is to support logistics and make distribution more efficient, not to displace any existing players in the sector,” he said.

He went on to say that using these trucks would not only be better for the environment but also drastically lower transportation costs, which would eventually make refined goods more accessible to Nigerians.

Edwin emphasised the broader effects of Dangote's business endeavours, especially in promoting growth and competition in key economic areas. He mentioned the Dangote Sugar Refinery, pointing out that other businesses, such as BUA Group and Nigerian Flour Mills, have invested in sugar manufacturing due to its success.

“We’ve seen it with sugar, and we’ve seen it with cement. The success of Dangote Cement led to the emergence of players like BUA, Mangal, and the expansion of Lafarge. In the same way, the success of this refinery will drive the emergence of more private refineries in Nigeria,” he added.

He claims that, in addition to helping reduce Nigeria's historical dependency on imported refined goods, the Dangote Refinery is also paving the way for a competitive and sustainable refining sector that will boost the country's economy as a whole.

He pointed out that the Dangote Group has developed into a breeding ground for technicians, scientists, and engineers, many of whom have gone on to work abroad as expatriates. He reassured the labour leaders of the company's unwavering dedication to human capital development, employee welfare, and the general health of the economy, highlighting that Aliko Dangote is a patriotic Nigerian who is fully committed to the advancement of his country.

Dangote Refinery sparks hope of cheaper fuel

Legit.ng reported that Nigeria’s journey toward a cheaper and more reliable petrol supply has taken a major step forward as independent marketers begin formal registration with the Dangote Refinery for direct fuel delivery.

The refinery, Africa’s largest, is scheduled to start distributing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel directly to retailers from August 15, bypassing traditional depots and intermediaries.

This development follows the company’s earlier announcement on June 15, 2025, of plans to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers nationwide.
