The National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that Nigeria earned more than N24.9 trillion from crude oil and petroleum gas exports in the first half of 2025.
The amount is however lower than N28 trillion recorded in the same period of 2024.

The NBS disclosed the figures in its Q2 foreign trade in goods statistics report.
Breakdown of crude oil sales
In the first quarter(January to March) Nigeria sold N12.9 trillion worth of crude and N11.9 trillion in second quarter. Crude oil sales averaged more than N4 trillion monthly in the first half of 2025.
Analysis of the data from the report shows that while India was Nigeria’s biggest crude buyer in the first quarter, France took the lead in the second quarter, followed by Canada and Spain.
The United States, Netherlands and Indonesia also remained strong destinations for Nigeria’s oil, while China’s demand stood at N208.1 billion in Q2.
Within Africa, South Africa remained the top importer, with Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana and Togo sustaining steady purchases.

Nigeria records 16-year low in crude oil losses
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Nigeria’s upstream oil industry has recorded a breakthrough, with crude oil losses from theft and metering errors dropping to their lowest level in nearly 16 years.
According to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), daily crude oil losses in July 2025 stood at just 9,600 barrels per day (bpd), the lowest since 2009 when the figure hit 8,500 bpd.
From January to July 2025, total crude oil losses amounted to 2.04 million barrels, averaging 9,600 bpd.
