President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the development as proof of Nigeria’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions, both locally and across Africa.

He commended NNPC, Sahara Group and WAGL, saying:

“This shows our strategic foresight and dedication to making LPG the dominant household fuel across Nigeria and Africa."

Also speaking, Bayo Ojulari, NNPC’s group chief executive officer, noted that the expansion aligns with the federal government’s gas-driven economic agenda.

He disclosed that WAGL had delivered over six million metric tonnes of LPG across West Africa in the last five years.

Temitope Shonubi, WAGL’s chairman and Sahara Group executive director, said the addition of MT Iyaloja reflects the company’s long-term vision of bridging Africa’s critical energy infrastructure gap.

The vessel was named in honour of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the late mother of President Tinubu, with the ribbon-cutting performed by her granddaughter, Folasade Mujidat Tinubu-Ojo, Iyaloja-General of Nigeria.

For a 12.5kg cylinder, the average price climbed 1.46% month-on-month to N21,010.56 in June from N20,709.11 in May, and surged 33.52% year-on-year from N15,736.27 in June 2024. Delta also topped the list at N23,108.44, while Yobe recorded the lowest at N19,000.
