Nigeria Doctor Who Treated Ebola Patient Infected With Virus

Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, made it known that a doctor in Lagos had contracted the deadly Ebola disease.

Vanguard reports that the Health Minister revealed that the Lagos doctor, who attended to and treated the Liberian Ebola victim in Lagos, had contracted the virus.

The Liberian-US person, identified as Patrick Sawyer, was a Liberian finance ministry employee before he died from the pawns of the deadly disease.

Although few days back, the Lagos state ministry of health said none of the health officials who had contacts with the Liberian has manifested any symptoms associated with the early stage of the deadly disease, the Health Minister has, however, said otherwise stating that one of the doctors has tested positive today.

The Nation, however, reports that 70 of those that travelled with the Liberian are under surveillance, while 8 are already quarantined. The government has also set up six-member treatment and research committee as part of the efforts to repel the disease.

At the same time, the Health Minister has made it known that Nigeria is not considering closing its borders with neighboring countries as a mean of repelling the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.

The Nation informed that the Health Minister said although measures like not allowing bodies of any victim of the Ebola disease into the country and also screening many people who use the border by custom officers have been put in place, Nigeria is not ready to close its points of entry now due to unknown reasons, but will surely do when it deems it fit that there is need for it.

From the record of the World Health Organization, Ebola outbreak in West Africa now has increased to 1,323 cases, over 729 deaths with the death rate of not fewer than 55%.
