Boko Haram Sect Is UnIslamic – OIC

The Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) came up with a declaration on Boko Haram sect, concluded that its members do not act in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

The position of the organisation known as "the collective voice of the Muslim world" was announced by its Secretary General, Eiyadd Amin Madani, in Abuja on June 2, 2014, Monday.

Following the meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan he told the State House correspondents that sect members were criminals misrepresenting Islam.

IOC SG further revealed that the delegation arrived in Abuja for a condolence visit over multiple death and destruction caused by Boko Haram terrorist attacks in the country. 

The OIC intended to discuss the priorities in cooperation between Nigeria and the organization with President Jonathan. 

The OIC expressed solidarity with the Nigerian people, as well as condolences to all the Nigerians, especially to families of those who have been affected.

Eiyadd Amin Madani confirmed that the organization would be ready to be actively involved in Nigeria’s struggle with the sect.

The OIC was established in 1969. Currently it includes 57 member states with a total population of 1.6 billion people. 

It is presented by a permanent delegation at the UN. The organisation works to “safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony”.
