Elders Forum Blame Sambo For North Backwardness

A member of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Barrister Solomon Dalung has accused Vice President Namadi Sambo of undermining the unity and progress of the northern region.

Barrister Dalung, who spoke on behalf of the Northern Elders Forum while fielding questions from the Hausa service of the Voice of America (VOA) monitored in Kaduna. also accused Sambo of negligence and lukewarm attitude towards pressing issues concerning the North.

He said, “What we want from someone holding his office is to champion unity and togetherness of the North. And to be sincere, Sambo has not helped the North in anyway, he has not even shown he is from the North, he only sits in Abuja and shuttles Europe.”

According to Dalung, the Vice President has no political significance in the region and has not in any way championed the cause of the region.

On the 2015 elections, Dalung said “those calling for his removal as Jonathan’s vice are just doing bidding of some interests from our own perspective.”

“But, the fact is, the PDP will not get it in 2015 the way they used to get it. Sambo is a northerner, he is a leader in the North; but he has no significance like it used to be in our region. He has not shown any sympathy to the North.

“He has never shown solidarity to even areas of conflicts in the North. Has he ever taken relief materials to victims of attacks? He has never; it is as though he had turned his back on our people. It is their internal PDP power struggle and we have no business with them. Whether they will change him or retain him, it is not our problem,” Dalung said.
