Taking A Picture Of Yourself Could Be A Mental Disorder

Taking selfies has reportedly been classified as a mental disorder.

According to a foreign site the American Psychiatric Association (APA) made this classification during its annual board of directors meeting in Chicago and they also decided to call it selfitis.

Selfitis is defined as ‘the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one’s self and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy’.

It was revealed that there are three levels of the disorder:

According to the APA, while there is currently no cure for the disorder, temporary treatment is available through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

However, the HealthSite.com has apologised to anyone whose sentiments may have been hurt by this piece as the site which first published the article seems to be a spoof site whose owners admit that, "when writing, we spice it up with figments of our imagination."
