Premium Times reports that the demolished RCCG building which is located right inside Obasanjo Hilltop, along Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, was pulled down on Friday, November 6.

The RCCG branch which is headed by a former lawmaker in the state, Remmy Hazzan, started in 2013. The church members were meant to start using the ground floor of the uncompleted building by November 8 before the demolition.

The demolition was dramatic as church members cried out in tears, with some shouting “Jesus, Jesus, this is your house,” “Lord where is your face.” Reports made it known that Governor Ibikunle Amosun had insisted that the building be pulled down, with reasons that the structure does not go with the residential master plan of the estate.

But when the Ogun state commissioner for special duties, Leke Adewolu, was contacted, he said he was not aware of the demolition. However, Governor Amosun’s special adviser on media, Adejuwon Soyinka, said the demolition was carried out because the church building was not approved.

“I am told that the church has no title documents nor approval. The estate is strictly residential, and the building has defeated the approved design plan. And let me quickly add, nothing is political about the action,”  Soyinka said.

Just days ago, there were reports that the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) had begun the repair of the Arepo and Warewa ends of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, but investigations carried out by Legit.ng revealed that it was the Ogun state government that was repairing the expressway.
