We'll Meet In Court - APC Reacts To Wike's Appeal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the appeal filed by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state over the judgment of the election petition tribunal.

The APC said it is not bothered about Wike’s decision to appeal the ruling of the tribunal and t was ready to meet the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in court, Leadership reports.

In a notice of appeal dated November 3, and filed by his lawyer, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), Governor Wike asked the Court of Appeal in Abuja to set aside the judgment of the tribunal which nullified the April 11, 2015 governorship election in the state on October 24.

Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday, November 5, Hon. Godstime Orlukwu, the secretary of the media and publicity committee of the APC in the state said they would win the PDP in court again.

He said: “We are happy that Governor Wike has finally gone on appeal against the tribunal judgment, which sacked him from office. Even though we had thought that he will not go on appeal since he claims that he has the magic wand to always win elections. We shall meet the PDP in court; we shall meet them at the Court of Appeal and by the grace of God, we shall defeat them again.

“The judgment we had at the tribunal is a watertight judgment. Apart from faulting the disregard of lawful guidelines; constitutionally lawful guidelines issued by INEC, Justice Ambrosa also hinged his ruling on widespread violence and use of known PDP thugs as collation officers."

Orlukwu commended Dakuku Peterside, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC for his good leadership.

The election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja and headed by Justice Suleiman Ambrosa on Saturday, October 24 nullified the April 11, 2015 election that produced Wike as governor of Rivers state.

To compound Wike’s troubles, Nigeria’s apex court, the Supreme Court on October 27 dismissed an appeal by Wike regarding the tribunal’s relocation to Abuja and upheld the right of the court to relocate the case to a tribunal sitting in Abuja following the absence of a chief judge in Rivers state at that time.

On October 29, the Court of Appeal struck out some paragraphs in the petition brought by Peterside, against the electoral victory of Governor Wike.
