Benue violence resumes, as at least 5 killed in Guma.

Governor Gabriel Suswam himself witnessed the results of the attack, which started between 6 am and 7 am.

The five dead bodies are yet to be taken away in Ukpam village as at the time of this report, just as the governor is going round to see things for himself.

Most of the yam barns were set ablaze. Police station in the community was also damaged by the attackers.

The death toll could increase: according to reports, the attackers were progressing to other villages on the way to Council Headquarters Gbajimgba.

All in all, over 20 villages within the area have been deserted due to heavy fighting. The number of displaced people flooding into Makurdi also grew rapidly.

Benue state has been boiling for the last few weeks: Governor Gabriel Suswam’s home has been endangered during one of the recent attacks by suspected herdsmen and Jukun militia.
