ELECTION - Edo State Governor Oshiomhole Accuses Police Of Electoral fraud

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has accused the police of aiding ballot box snatching, supervising electoral fraud and intimidating voters in the just-concluded Esan North East Local Government election.

The Governor while speaking at the swearing in of the council Chairman, Mr. Sam Oboh, at the Government House in Benin City yesterday said: “I am embarrassed that the police have become electoral officials.” According to him, “What I heard yesterday and I am still investigating, if the reports are correct, then Nigeria should be put on notice that the police may well have chosen to become the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) officials and have chosen to overthrow those who are authorized by law to conduct elections".

Contacted on phone yesterday the Edo State police public relations officer, DSP Moses Eguavoen said he was yet to be informed about the governor’s allegation and promised that the police would put up appropriate response on a later date.
