APC Should Suspend Tinubu - Group

The Leadership by Example League International (LELI) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to suspend Bola Tinubu, the ex-governor of Lagos state, for not recognising the new Senate president, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki became the speaker against all odds on June 9, defeating Senator Ahmed Lawan, the official candidate of the party.

The group in a statement by its chancellor, Batos Nwadike, said it was hopeful that with the emergency of Saraki as the Senate president and Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the deputy Senate president, the upper legislative house was set to give operative leadership to Nigerians.

LELI called on angry senators to retract their swords and give the leadership of the Senate the support it needs.

It said: “The statement emanating from Tinubu and (Senator) Gemade to the effect that they do not recognise the avowed election held transparently in the hallowed hall of the red chamber on Tuesday is embarrassing.”

The group expressed concern over what it called an ‘April fool in June’. It alleged that Tinubu and Gemade had colluded with APC leaders to call a meeting pretending it was convened by President Buhari.

The group added the National Assembly was for Nigeria and not the Lagos state House of Assembly.

It also greeted Yakubu Dogara, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the deputy speaker, Yusuf Larson.

Nigerians should support a strengthened and virile National Assembly,” the statement read.

Tinubu earlier said that the elections that took place on June 9, at the Red and Green chambers were “unacceptable”.
